ADRIAN – Delia M. Fisher, age 99, of Adrian, passed away Thursday, December 10, 2009 at Charlotte Stephenson Manor.
Delia was born January 29, 1910 in Adrian, the only daughter of Otto and Gertrude (Scott) Baisch. On September 3, 1938, Delia married Edward P. Fisher. Edward and Delia celebrated 44 years of marriage prior to his death in 1983.
She attended the Farrand School of Nursing at Harper Hospital in Detroit. Delia worked there as a surgical nurse from 1930 to 1934. She then worked at the Emma L. Bixby Hospital, now known as Bixby Medical Center, as Assistant Superintendent of Nursing from 1934 to 1940. During World War II, Delia taught home nursing classes. She was a long standing member of the American Red Cross and volunteered at their blood drives for many years. Friends and family will remember Delia as a caring, generous, gracious, loving and positive woman.
Delia was an active member of St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church in Cambridge Junction.
She is survived by two sons, Peter (Pamela) Fisher and Andrew (Donna) Fisher, both of Brooklyn; one daughter, Mary (Patrick) Macdonald of Royal Oak; eight grandchildren: Michael (France) Fisher, Douglas Fisher, Jeffrey Fisher, Molly (Ray) Scruggs, Jason (Amy) Macdonald, Curtis Fisher, Carolyn (Craig) Armstrong, and Jennifer (David) Poore, eight great grandchildren: Carly, Colin, Tristen, Cannon, Camille, Claire, Nathan, and Anna; a dear sister-in-law, Iona Baisch and a dear friend, Nancy Reynolds.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Walter and John Baisch.
At Delia’s request burial at Oakwood Cemetery will be private. A memorial celebration of her life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church in Cambridge Junction with Rev. Sandy Benes officiating. Friends may visit her family at the church from 11:30 a.m. until the service. You may also send condolences to the family at www.wagleyfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Delia may be made to Hospice of Lenawee, the Edward P. Fisher Scholarship Fund at Siena Heights University or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
